Employee Benefits

The City of Hendersonville values its employees and provides a wide variety of benefits. An overview is included below. 

Health Insurance

The City of Hendersonville has made a commitment to provide quality health care coverage for employees. Employee health insurance coverage is provided at 100% if wellness requirements are met foeligible employeesFamily coverage is available for purchase with the City covering 75% of dependent coverage costsTwo health insurance plans are available for selection to best serve the needs of the employee: HDHP with HSA or PPO plan. 

Dental & Vision Insurance

Employee Dental Insurance is provided at 100% for eligible employees. Family coverage is available for purchase. Buy-up plans are available. 

Employee Vision Insurance is provided at 100% for eligible employees. Family coverage is available for purchase. Buy-up plans are available. 

Life Insurance

The City of Hendersonville provides life insurance of $25,000 at no cost to eligible employees. Employees may elect to enroll in voluntary term, group term, whole life and universal life insurance coverage to supplement their own coverage or cover spouses and children. 

Local Government Employees Retirement System

Employees in positions requiring them to work 1,000 hours per year are members of the N.C. Local Governmental Employees Retirement System. An employees' share of the cost is currently 6% of their compensation and is automatically deducted from their paycheck with the City also contributingAfter five years of creditable service in the N.C. LGERS, employees are vested for purposes of retirement benefits in accordance with the eligibility requirements established by the State Department of the Treasurer, Retirement Systems Division. 

Retirement Savings Plans

Saving for retirement is an important step toward living out a financially secure future. As a public employee in NC, City employees have multiple plans to choose from.

Employee Wellness Clinic

The City of Hendersonville partners with the Pardee @ Work Clinic to offer a wellness clinic for employees. Staff may visit the clinic at no charge for minor illnesses, immunizations, chronic conditions, wellness program tests, etc.

Wellness Program

The City’s Taking Shape Wellness Program is designed to get employees active by encouraging fitness, preventative measures, education and volunteer opportunities. Eligible employees have the potential to earn vacation hours per quarter for points earned. 

Additional Benefits

Longevity is available for eligible employees. 

Vacation leave is available for eligible employees. 

Sick leave is available for eligible employees. 

Twelve paid holidays per year are available for eligible employees. 

Paid Family Leave is available for eligible employees. 

Family & Medical Leave (FMLA) is available for eligible employees. 

Paid Short Term Disability Coverage is available for eligible employees. 

Flexible Spending Account - This benefit allows eligible employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses such as medical expenses, copayments, over-the-counter medication, and more. 

Alternative Medicine Program - Employees and covered dependents can receive reimbursement for select alternative treatments such as acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga therapy, integrative medicine and more.  

Telemedicine services are offered for employees and covered dependents.  

Employee Assistance Program – This confidential program provides professional assistance for employees experiencing problems.  

YMCA discounts are available for eligible employees. 

Employees and those in their household are able to visit Patton Pool at no charge. 

Hiking Series – A program encouraging employees to exercise and earn swag. 

Voluntary Accident Insurance, Long Term Disability, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity and Cancer Insurance plans are available for purchase for eligible employees. 

Tuition Assistance Program – A program to encourage employees to take course work that will improve their performance in their present position and help them prepare for positions of higher responsibility. The program is on a first come first serve basis and pays up to 50% of eligible expenses each fiscal year.
