The historical heritage of the City of Hendersonville is a treasured asset enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The Mayor and Council recognize the role that historic properties play in that heritage, and believe that the conservation of historic properties stabilizes and increases property values and strengthens the overall economy of the City. For these reasons, they have adopted a Historic Preservation Ordinance.
The Hendersonville Historic Preservation Commission is a nine member board whose members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The Community Development Department provides staff support to the Commission.

Local Designated Districts (PDF, 447 KB) - These districts are regulated by the Historic Presrvation Commission and must apply for a Certificate of Appropriatness (COA) application prior to commencing any work on the enxterior of the building.
National Register Historic Districts (PDF, 671 KB) - These districts are not regulated by the City, however, there are additional incentives that are associated with some properties located within the districts. Those incentives can be found on the State Historic Preservation Office website.
