Downtown Advisory Committee

The City of Hendersonville is committed to protecting the economic viability, physical infrastructure, and social fabric of Main Street, 7th Avenue and the entire downtown area. The Downtown Advisory Committee will advise City Council and the Downtown Economic Development Director on policies and practices dealing with the Hendersonville Main Street Municipal Service District. The committee works in concert with the 7th Avenue Advisory Committee, City Staff and City Council to implement the historic preservation based economic development strategy developed by the National Main Street Center and known as "The Four Point Approach." The Committee is an active member of the North Carolina Main Street Program.

The Downtown Advisory Committee consists of eight members including a council liaison who will serve as a non-voting ex-officio member of the committee. Of the seven remaining non-council members, six will represent downtown stakeholders, i.e. property owners, business community members or residents from within the Main Street Municipal Service District and the seventh member will be an "at large" seat. All members are entitled to equal rights, privileges and duties with other members of the committee. The Chairman is chosen annually by the Committee from among the committee membership. Terms of appointment are two years and members may be reappointed to three consecutive terms, before being required to sit off the board for at least one year. Members serve staggered terms.
