Removal of Bradford Pear Trees Encouraged in Hendersonville Through Bradford Pear Bounty Removal Program

To help combat the spread of the invasive Bradford Pear tree, the Hendersonville Tree Board and NC State University are sponsoring the Bradford Pear Bounty, an invasive tree replacement program that rewards property owners for removing Bradford Pears from their property.

Bradford Pears are an invasive tree species that cause significant ecological harm to the environment by displacing native species and wildlife that depend on native species for food and habitat.

This exchange is free and open to the public with preference given to City residents based on demand. For every Bradford Pear tree you remove, you can receive one free replacement tree – up to five total. Participants must register on the Bradford Pear Bounty website to be eligible for the program. Several local tree-care service providers are also offering discounts for those participating. A list of participating providers can be found at www.treebountync.com/removal-discounts

The event will take place on Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the City of Hendersonville Operations Center (305 Williams Street). Pre-registration is required, and participants must provide a photo of the Bradford Pear that they have removed or treated with herbicide.

120 native trees will be distributed. Registration does not guarantee a tree. Applicants will be contacted via email after submitting.

NC Bradford Pear Bounty is a collaborative program between NC State Extension, NC Urban Forest Council, NC Forest Service, and NC Wildlife Federation. To register and learn more, visit www.treebountync.com
