The City of Hendersonville is excited to announce a fall mulch giveaway program to begin on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.  Mulch will be available for pick up on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This schedule will continue until material is gone.

The mulch will be distributed at the old Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 80 Balfour Road in Hendersonville. The Public Works Department will have a staff member on-site to operate the backhoe and load the material. Please be aware that construction is underway in the area. We ask the public to use caution when accessing the property.

This marks the first mulch giveaway since Tropical Storm Helene. During the storm recovery effort, the vegetative debris that would typically be processed for the program was removed as part of the City's cleanup operations.

Under normal circumstances, vegetative materials are ground into mulch and properly aged for at least one year before being made available to the community. The return of the program provides an opportunity for the City to once again put these materials to beneficial use while offering a resource to local residents.

As a thank-you to the community for its patience following Hurricane Helene, there will be no residency restrictions during this year’s mulch giveaway. Typically, the first two weeks of the program are reserved for City residents.

Commercial vehicles are not allowed, this includes dump trucks and any other marked commercial trucks or trailers.

For questions about this program, please contact the Public Works Department at (828) 697-3084.
