Rebates

The City of Hendersonville is pleased to offer Water Conservation Incentive Program Rebates! This rebate program is for commercial and residential customers who take steps to reduce their overall water use through purchasing high-efficiency plumbing fixtures including toilets, dishwashers, and washing machines. Please review the program guidelines and application instructions provided below. 

Guidelines

Toilets

Requirements:

  • The toilet purchased must be replacing one using 1.6 gallons per flush, GPF or more and must be replaced with a toilet using 1.1 GPF or less.

Incentives:

  • Residential: $50/toilet, not to exceed 2 toilet rebates per account.
  • Commercial: $50/toilet, not to exceed 4 toilet rebates per nonresidential account. Commercial customers can email or call with a request for a waiver to replace 5 or more toilets by using the contact information found on page 3.

Dishwasher

Requirements:

  • The dishwasher must be Energy Star certified

Incentives:

  • Residential: $75/dishwasher not to exceed 1 dishwasher rebate per account

Washing Machine

Requirements:

  • The washing machine must be Energy Star certified

Incentives:

  • $100/washing machine not to exceed 1 washing machine rebate per account.

Customer side shut-off

 
Requirements:
  • Available to residential customers only to install shut-off valves on the customer side of the water meter as shown on the Rebate Program Overview PDF. Please note: Current City ordinance prohibits anyone other than City staff or plumbing companies authorized by the City, as part of the City’s Small Water Service Access Program, from operating any portion of the water system infrastructure including City-owned shut-off valves located in each residential water service meter box. Due to this, the City encourages it’s customers to have their own water shut off valve to quickly turn off water in the event of a customer-side leak to limit potential damage and the waste of water.
  • Must be installed by a NC-licensed plumber
  • Must be installed on the customer side of the meter, within two feet of the meter box (if possible) and must be lead free.
  • Rebate: Maximum of $300/ per account. Receipt MUST specify the shut-off valve is lead free and installed on the customer-side.

Smart or Weather-Based Irrigation System Controller

Requirements:

  • Available to residential or commercial customers
  • Controller must meet the 100/0 (100% irrigation adequacy and 0% irrigation excess) specifications, in accordance with testing conducted by Smart Water. For a complete list of approved controllers go to irrigation.org/swat/control climate/, click on “Tested Products”, select “Controllers, climate-based” and scroll to the bottom of the page.
  • Incentives:
    • 50% of the purchase price (excluding taxes) or $200, whichever is less, not to exceed one irrigation system controller rebate per account.

Application Process

Submit application through the Cognito form at https://www.cognitoforms.com/CityOfHendersonville4/WaterConservationIncentivesProgramRebates or Mail, drop off or email a completed application with original dated receipt(s) attached to the address below:

Customers must have a valid receipt and have the replacement water fixture installed. All applications are subject to verification by City personnel. Upon approval, rebates will be issued on a first come, first serve basis. If approved, your account will receive a one-time credit equal to the rebate amount in customer’s bill in the next month’s bill cycle. Disclaimer: rebates are provided in accordance to the most current adopted fee schedule based on the date of the submitted receipt. The application for rebate must be submitted within 6 months of the receipt date.
