The City has replaced all existing water meters with new meters and communications equipment that will allow each meter to be read six times per day. In the past, most of these meters have been read manually one time per month while approximately 3,500 of our 28,000 meters were read with drive-by radio reading equipment one time each month. This new system will allow department staff to identify possible leaks on the customer's side of the meter thus saving the customer money; while conserving water since the leak can be discovered much sooner than with traditional meter reading methods. On January 30, 2013 we reached the 50% completion milestone and are now 100% complete with this project. All thirteen communication sites are functioning and able to read all meters remotely from those sites. Project COMPLETED ON: June 28, 2013.
